Wilderness Tours

Hill country walks through regenerating and remnant native forests,
Featuring:

  • Native plants of interest
  • Rock features - marble outcrops
  • Sinkholes
  • Mountain & Sea views

These walks are suitable for people with interests in:

  • Native plants
  • Ecology
  • Geology & Geomorphology
  • or for people who simply wish to have an interesting walk in an “incipient forest “ and see the view from the lookout point.

Please note - these are bush tracks of a minimalist style as suited to a wilderness.

You will need:

  • Good footwear.
  • A sense of adventure & an interst in the world around you.
  • A touch of hardiness.
  • Reasonable fitness is enough except for off-track exploring, for which you need to be fit and tough.
  • Always bring a rain coat.
  • You may wish to bring a drink and a snack.

Options:

  1. Lookout walk: About 2 hours is needed to complete the Lookout walk allowing time to enjoy the many other points of interest along the way.
  2. The Big Kahuna, or Giants Grove?: An adventurous expedition of about 4 hours with options to extend the adventure if you wish to challenge yourself to some bush navigation. This option gives you the opportunity to view the remnant forest giants, including Matai and Rimu.
  3. Shorter walks can be organised for active children.

Costs:
Costs are $25 per hour for a group, maximum group numbers are 6 people.


Farm Walks


An opportunity to walk the farm, see the sheep, chooks and weeds, and discover the farming environment.

  1. Farm, mountain & valley views.
  2. Possible opportunity to feed hens or chickens in the farmyard.
  3. Working dog demonstrations may be an option.

Cost: $25 per hour for any group maximum size 6 or 7 people.
